Scarborough beach cricket tournament in January

I was startled to just come across google news item re beach cricket tournament being held in Scarborough just now. Even with global warming, surely North or South Bay way too chill for cricket, esp with stars playing. Turns out, though, it's in Scarborough, Australia:

 "A capacity crowd of 7000 cricket fans flocked to the Scarborough
beachfront this weekend to see some of the legends of world cricket
duke it out in a tri-nations beach cricket series.

The series between Australia, England and debutant New Zealand started on Saturday and continued through Sunday."
