Heyup there!

Welcome to the latest website on Scarborough, North Yorkshire - "Queen of the Yorkshire Coast". A fine seaside town in its own right, Scarborough lies in a wonderful part of England, with grand stretches of coastline, the North Yorkshire Moors just to the north, the chalk cliffs of Bempton and Flamborough to the south.

Staycationing increases tourism at Scarborough

From BBC, indicating a silver lining to the recession:

Quote:
Scarborough is the third most popular holiday destination in England.

The town has been welcoming families for more than 360 years. In 2009 it is enjoying far higher hotel occupancy rates than last year, and is seeing an increase in the numbers of people staying this summer for a holiday.

Scarborough named UK Enterprise Capital 2008

From the Financial Times:

Quote:
Scarborough has been named UK Enterprise Capital 2008 for regeneration that included turning a museum full of stuffed seabirds into studio space for creative businesses.

The award is handed out yearly by the government, based on the recommendation of independent judges, to a town or city that has made striking progress in reviving a sickly local economy.

Evening News plays it cool with scoop

The Independent has a short item on Scarborough Evening News managing a national (or international) scoop, but playing it very cool:

Quote:
A meeting with Charles Bean, the Deputy Governor of the Bank of England, provided the Scarborough Evening News business reporter Laura Crothers with an unexpected scoop yesterday.
